The classic wavetable synthesizer
Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V is the resurrection of the synth that reached cult status back in 1982 and is now available as a VST Instrument for both PC and Mac VST systems.
Whilst contemporary synthesizers tended to have oscillators that only possessed a few relatively static and conventional waveforms, such as sawtooth, pulse, or triangle waves, the PPG Wave was the first synthesizer to utilize digital wavetable oscillators and analogue filters.
Each oscillator could use one of 32 wavetables. A wavetable itself is a collection of 64 digital waveforms. The PPG Wave didn't just let you select one of these waveform in a wavetable; the actual wave used was a synthesizer parameter itself. Modulating the waveform used from a wavetable, with enveloped and other modulation sources lay at the heart of the PPG synth engine. This concept gave the PPG a 'motion' to its sound - an animation that could be anything from subtle to outrageous - indeed no one would argue that the PPG sound was anything other than unique and immediately identifiable.
Now Waldorf - the undisputed leaders in wavetable synthesis - brings this exclusive sound back to life. And as a Plug-In, this VST Instrument gains all the advantages of being integrated into the Cubase production environment: The outputs appear directly in the VST mixer, effects and automation can be used. MIDI tracks are routed with sample accurate event timing directly to the synth engine without involving the vagaries of MIDI cables and interfaces. The polyphony depends solely on the CPU power available to your computer. Cubase VST allows each synth to be used up to 8 times simultaneously and each of those synth is 8-way multi-timbral, leaving you more than enough space for your sound imagination. A new graphical page offers easy editing of envelopes, generators and the filter section.
The combination of modern software technology plus the charm and massive sound potential of the "old" digital days results in a unique instrument which brings back individuality and pure fun: The PPG Wave 3.V.
